A table made by hand

Four and a half metres of Tasmanian oak, hand-cut and made by Australian craftspeople. It narrows to about a metre in the middle — close enough to pass a plate across — with knee room all the way round.

A round stone island to cook at

Two metres across, polished stone on a curved, tiled base, stepped up to bench height where the table meets the kitchen. Prep on it, plate on it, or gather round it for a demonstration.

A ceiling that pulls it together

A suspended grid in a quiet neutral follows the curve of the table overhead. It ties the room together and takes the edge off the noise when everyone talks at once.

A floor built for a party

Hard-wearing vinyl planks with the look of timber. Warm underfoot, quiet under chairs, and a spilled glass wipes straight up.

The cooking wall

Four ovens and a proper cooktop, with the island right behind you.

Four ASKO ovens, stacked two by two

  • At waist height, two 60cm pyrolytic ovens — 71 litres each, up to 300°C, on telescopic runners, with programmes that step from a slow roast to a hot finish on their own.
  • Above them at eye level, two 45cm combi microwave ovens — microwave, grill and fan oven in one. Warm the plates, rest the roast, reheat the sides, or run them as two more ovens.
  • Nobody crouches to check the roast.

A 90cm ASKO induction cooktop

  • Six zones that join up for a griddle plate, and a boost that brings the pasta water up fast.
  • Chef mode sets hot, medium and low across the glass — sear on one side, hold on the other.
  • Presets melt chocolate, keep things warm and hold a simmer.
  • Stone bench either side to land the pans, power points in the splashback, and the rangehood built into the cupboard above.

The room, end to end

Lounge at the front, table in the middle, kitchen at the back. All of it is in the base hire.

  1. The lounge. A lit ledge for welcome drinks just inside the door, a high table with perches straight ahead, and swivel chairs that turn to see everyone arrive. The curtain parks to leave a way through on the left, or draws right across for a surprise.

  2. Power at the table. For a hot pot, a raclette grill or the slow cooker.

  3. A lit ledge. Along the dining wall, lit from underneath — for place cards, photos and candles in holders.

  4. Screen and sound. A 65-inch screen on a swing-out arm facing the table, and a proper sound system — the slideshow, your playlist, or the grand final.

  5. Fridge and drinks fridge. A 427-litre fridge freezer, and a 93-litre drinks fridge at the dining end, so guests help themselves without walking through the cooking.

  6. The wash-up bench. The bin, a deep sink under a high tap with a pull-out spray, and two dishwashers side by side, along their own wall.

Light you can dim

Wide felt pendants and spotlights over the island, wall lights washing up and down the walls, and a glow under the ledge. Bright for the prep, low for the candles.

Privacy, properly

Your own door straight into the lounge, blinds on every window, insulated walls, cupboards to stow coats and boxes, and no other bookings while you’re in. Speeches stay in the room. A camera at the front door sees arrivals and departures; there are none in the room.

Easy to get to

On-street parking at the door and along the side streets, Sandringham station a short walk, the bay a few streets over.

Looked after by neighbours

The people who set your table, meet you at the door and lock up after you live a few streets away. They’re our own crew, employed by us, not booked through an app.
